Tottenham Hotspur boss demanded signings before the World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino signed a new contract extension a fortnight ago and it is probably just as well for the club that he did.

That is because the manager’s first demand for this summer’s transfer window has already been ignored.

Pochettino was clear earlier this year that he wanted signings done before the World Cup.

So far Tottenham have not announced any deals, with the World Cup kicking off four days ago.

In April, Pochettino told The Times: “We are thinking and trying to anticipate because it will be difficult if not at the World Cup.

“If the performance is not good at the World Cup you are going to sign players that have not performed in the way you have expected and if you are going to sign players where the performance is so good it will be so complicated.”

Last December he told The Guardian: “This summer was a very good example because we signed good players but it was so late and with no pre-season [for them], you pay,”

There is still a little time before Tottenham begin pre-season in early July, and if they can get a player in before then, it may appease Pochettino a little.

Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at White Hart Lane on August 27, 2016 in London, England.

Yet this summer so far, Tottenham are repeating their mistakes of the past despite their manager’s demands not to.

It will make for a frenetic late month for them in July, with the transfer window closing early on August 9.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may have secured a big move by getting Pochettino to sign a new deal, but failing to land any of their targets before the World Cup is hardly a sign that the club are committed to changing their ways despite the Argentine’s warning.
