Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to loan Georges-Kevin N’Koudou to Burnley – but still intend to hold onto the winger long-term.

According to French newspaper Le Figaro, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy blocked Burnley’s request to include an ‘option to buy’ as part of the loan agreement.

Tottenham evidently still intend to hold onto N’Koudou beyond this season and see his spell at Burnley as a testing ground, rather than a chance to get shot of him.

Last year Spurs included an option to buy when they loaned out Federico Fazio to Roma, and it did not work out well, with the Argentine playing above expectations – meaning Spurs ended up selling below his market value.

The worse case scenario with N’Koudou would have been if he played strongly for Burnley and were then powerless to keep him.

Tottenham battled hard to sign the winger in 2016 from Marseille, but head coach Mauricio Pochettino has not been convinced.

N’Koudou has struggled for first team action and a loan to Burnley makes a lot of sense for him.

Tottenham’s refusal to cut their losses and sell is a show of faith, but if he fails to seize his chance at Turf Moor then Spurs may make a decision to sell in the summer regardless, with clubs in France also having registered their interest in taking him on loan.
