Tottenham Hotspur have moved the goal posts over Kyle Walker’s proposed transfer to Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotspur owner Daniel Levy has once again shown his tough negotiating stance by changing the goal posts with Kyle Walker’s asking price, but he is perfectly within his rights to do so.
Spurs are now reportedly demanding £60 million from Manchester City for Walker (Daily Mirror).
Levy has taken into account the fact that Liverpool were prepared to pay a similar fee for Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk, and deemed Walker to be worth the same price.
Spurs were initially thought to be looking for around £40 million, but Levy has chanced his arm once again.
And it is a move which could be a masterstroke, as Spurs hold all the cards in any potential deal.
Tottenham are not under pressure to sell Walker, as they are well financed as it is.
Indeed, it is Manchester City who must complete a deal for a right-back this summer.
City have released every senior right-back in their squad, leaving them very short of options.
Pep Guardiola needs to bring in a right-sided defender in time for pre-season, and with Walker being their first choice – they may simply have played right into Levy’s hands.
