Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha recently.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will block a move for Wilfried Zaha.
Levy doesn’t feel that Zaha’s transfer offers value for money, due his international commitments.
Zaha is likely to miss six weeks out of every other season, due to his decision to represent the Ivory Coast – because of the African Cup of Nations.
And that has been enough to put Levy off spending the £40 million required to bring the Crystal Palace winger to Spurs.
However, Levy’s decision could be a mistake – as Zaha would have been the perfect addition for Spurs this summer.
Zaha has proven to be one of the most dangerous attacking threats in the Premier League this season, and although he did fail the last time he made the step up to a title chasing club, he appears far more ready to make a big move now.
Spurs spent a combined total of £50 million to bring in Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen last season, and Zaha would surely be far less of a gamble than either of those buys – even with his international commitments.
If Tottenham are serious about wanting to become a permanent inclusion in the top four, they need to build on the core squad that they have at White Hart Lane currently.
And, given Mauricio Pochettino’s track record of developing young talent, Levy should back Tottenham’s manager’s judgement and fund a deal to bring Zaha to the club.
