Swansea City winger Daniel James has told Wales Online that he wants to stay with the club after his January move to Leeds United fell through.

The 21-year-old was in fine form on Sunday afternoon, helping Swansea hammer Brentford in the FA Cup and book their passage into the last eight of the FA Cup.

James scored a sensational solo goal, using his blistering pace to blaze past the Brentford defence and finish superbly, showing the superb speed that made him a Leeds target.

Leeds spent much of January attempting to sign the former Hull talent, and thought they had a deal agreed on deadline day – but it all went wrong.

The Yorkshire Evening Post note that James was at Elland Road waiting for Swansea to finalise the deal, but they refused, and James was left to return to the Liberty Stadium.

James featured against Leeds last week, and his display against Brentford showed just why Marcelo Bielsa and co wanted him – and what they’re missing out on.

Now, James has admitted that it was ‘difficult’ for him in the aftermath of his Leeds move falling through, but has now revealed that he wants to sign a new deal with the Swans.

James has admitted that he loves ‘every second’ of playing for Swansea, and wants to extend his stay beyond his current deal expiring in 2020 – and the ship may have subsequently sailed on Leeds signing him.

“At the start, it was difficult, but I love playing for this team and for these fans and so I’ve concentrated on that,” said James. “I’ve got 18 months left on my contract so I’m just concentrating on playing. There are new contract talks under way and I’m enjoying my football here.”

“Yes. I love every second of it here. Playing for this club has been amazing and the way the gaffer has brought me through has been fantastic,” he added.
