Leeds United are now leading the race for Manchester United winger Daniel James, according to The Manchester Evening News.

What’s the story?

The Manchester Evening News are reporting this morning (10:30am) that Leeds are the frontrunners for United winger James.

United could decide to offload the Wales international winger before the summer transfer window closes tomorrow.

The Red Devils have signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus and Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

This means that James will struggle for playing time in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the coming weeks and months.

Leeds are the frontrunners for the winger, according to the report, which has added that United paid £15 million to sign him from Swansea City in 2019.

Could a Leeds United transfer happen?

Leeds wanted to sign James before he joined the Red Devils from Swansea for £15 million, as reported by Sky Sports.

It does not come as a surprise that Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa is still interested in the 23-year-old Wales international, described as “an exciting young winger with lots of skills, vision, exceptional pace and a good work ethic” by Solskjaer on United’s official website in June 2019.

James has scored six goals in 50 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

A transfer to Leeds could well happen either on loan or on a permanent basis.
