Former West Ham player Daniel Gabbidon has well and truly rinsed Everton on Twitter by stating there are ‘bigger gaps than the Grand Canyon’ when talking about the club’s defence.

Gabbidon was specifically talking about Marco Silva’s side inability to defend a set-piece situation during their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Centre-back Aymeric Laporte headed his team ahead in the first half when the home side’s defence was unable to deal with David Silva’s free-kick from the left-hand side – Gabriel Jesus secured all the points for City in stoppage-time.

Nonetheless, Gabbidon wasn’t clearly impressed in the manner Everton have been defending in recent weeks as he offered his thoughts on his personal Twitter account.

As Gabbidon mentions in his tweet, Silva’s side have conceded a lot of goals from dead ball situations during this campaign.

Prior to the City match, they suffered a damaging 3-1 home defeat to Wolves last Saturday and in that game, they conceded from a free-kick, with the goal being almost identical to the one they conceded in midweek.

Despite the negative reaction to performances and results in recent weeks, the Toffees are still sitting in the top 10 of the Premier League table and they have a chance of moving into the top eight at the weekend.

The Merseyside club will travel to Watford to take on Javi Gracia’s eighth-placed Watford side with a win ensuring they leapfrog them in the table.
