Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic have been linked with Manchester City-owned Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn in the summer transfer window.

Norwich City Head Coach Daniel Farke celebrates victory after the Sky Bet Championship match between Norwich City and Leeds United at Carrow Road on April 28, 2018 in Norwich, England.

Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has told the Eastern Daily Press that he would like to retain the services of Manchester City-owned goalkeeper and reported Celtic target Angus Gunn.

Gunn joined Norwich in the Championship in England on a season-long loan deal from Premier League club City in the summer of 2017.

According to The Scottish Sun, Scottish Premiership giants Celtic want to sign the 22-year-old goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Norwich manager Farke has said that he would like to have Gunn, who earns a base salary of £208,000 per year according to Spotrac.com, in his team next season, but he has admitted that it is not in his hands – comments which should encourage Celtic.

Farke told The Eastern Daily Press about Gunn: “When you have such a good goalkeeper then of course we would try 100pc to keep this player but to be honest it is not in our hands.

“It is what Angus wants and maybe even more importantly what Manchester City want. We can’t pressure them, not in any way, not with financial pressure or arguments. No chance. We’ll see how it works out.”

Celtic or Norwich City?

Gunn is unlikely to break into the City first team next season, and it would make sense for the 22-year-old to spend the 2018-19 campaign out on loan again.

Celtic would be a better proposition than Norwich. Not only would the Hoops be firm favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title, but the Glasgow giants are also likely to be playing in the Champions League next season.

True, it would be hard for Gunn to dislodge Craig Gordon from the team at Celtic, if the youngster wants to be a long-term future at City, then he would have to fight for his place.
