Marcus Thuram is one player who has made a number of headlines heading into the January transfer window.
The French attacker has been linked to the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal this month as he enters the final half a year of his contract.
Due to his contract situation, this is Borussia Monchengladbach’s last chance to cash-in on Thuram, but despite this, the Bundesliga side are seemingly holding firm on the idea of keeping their star striker until the end of the season.
Indeed, Daniel Farke, via CalcioMercato, has now gone on the record to suggest that Thuram will not be leaving this month, stating that he’s very, very sure he’ll still be there for the second half of the season.
Thuram is staying
Farke was very adamant on his stance regarding Thuram.
“If we talk about Marcus now, for example, I don’t think there are many clubs that particularly appeal to him right now. I think he feels right at home here at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He’s back in good shape and condition and very motivated: you can never rule out anything in this business, but I’m very, very sure he will play a very, very good second half of the season for us,” Farke said.
Delaying the inevitable
Thuram may not be leaving Germany this month, but there is a feeling that Monchengladbach are simply delaying the inevitable here.
The French striker is destined for bigger and better things, and given his obvious physical attributes, one has to say that he looks perfect for the Premier League.
With Newcastle and Arsenal both keen, he may well be headed to England in the summer, and if he plays his cards right he’ll be playing Champions League football next season as well.
