Pontus Jansson was the hero for Leeds United on Saturday.
Norwich City boss Daniel Farke has admitted to Leeds Live that he had mixed emotions over Pontus Jansson’s “brilliant, clinical header” in Leeds United’s 1-0 win on Saturday.
A tight encounter at Elland Road was settled by the big Swede who nodded home the decisive goal on 41 minutes to propel Leeds to within one point of the top six.
To make contact with Pawel Cibicki’s free kick, the United centre-back had to initially move away from goal in order to meet the delivery.
And although Farke admits that it was a fine header from the Leeds stalwart, the Canaries boss says the movement of Jansson made it a bitter pill to swallow.
“It was a brilliant, clinical header but we can defend this situation with our individual behaviour a bit better,” he told Leeds Live.
“To concede such a determining goal is pretty hard to accept.”
Jansson was also superb at the other end as he and Liam Cooper repelled everything that City threw their away.
It was the sort of Herculean defensive effort which he and Cooper were producing on a regular basis earlier in the campaign, and you get the feeling that the Whites’ Premier League promotion hopes hinge on whether they rediscover that solidity on a regular basis from January to May.
