The Portuguese winger took to Instagram and Twitter to say farewell after sealing an exit from Rangers.
The Scottish Sun have reported that the fee received by the Ibrox club for his transfer is just £250,000.
BBC Scotland reported last week that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard spoke about wanting the 31-year-old to stay and fight for his place in the squad, suggesting that his departure was more the player’s decision than the manager’s.
Candeias has been an integral part of the Rangers team over the last two seasons but with the arrival of Sheyi Ojo and Jake Hastie, his chances of making as many appearances this term were slim.
Declaring he will be “always a Ger”, the player seemed sad to be leaving the club with his message to fans.
In total the Portuguese scored 14 goals and assisted 25 times in Rangers colours across the two seasons. Last season only James Tavernier had a higher assist total.
His exit means someone must step up and replace what he’s leaving with.
Ojo has been a clear first choice in the early stages of this season and looks capable of producing some classy performances.
However his direct goal contributions have never been consistent in his career so far at senior level and the Liverpool loanee must start to fulfil his potential to stay in the team and provide what the Gers need.
It’s been reported by The Sun that Gerrard could look to replace the player directly in the transfer market before the end of August but that will be all about identifying the right target. A panic buy won’t cut it.
Rangers are next in action this Thursday night, hoping to exorcise the demons of the damaging defeat to Progres Niederkorn two years ago with another qualifying tie against the Luxembourg side.
