Daniel Candeias comments on Pedro Caixinha exit

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers are on the lookout for a permanent successor to Pedro Caixinha, with Graeme Murty currently in charge of the Gers.

Rangers winger Daniel Candeias has suggested that Pedro Caixinha lost his managerial job at Ibrox for failing to progress to the Europa League, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

Caixinha was dismissed by Rangers in October due to a run of disappointing results in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers also failed to progress to the group stage of the Europa League this season, as they got knocked out at the qualifying stage by Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn.

Candeias joined Rangers from Benfica in the summer transfer window, and the 29-year-old winger has suggested that failing to book a spot in the Europa League was crucial in Caixinha losing his managerial job at Ibrox.

“The elimination marked the season for Caixinha,” The Scottish Sun quotes Candeias as saying. “Left him at work in a certain way, conditioned.The club wanted to play in Europe and it wasn’t possible.”

Graeme Murty is in charge of the Rangers first team at the moment, but it remains to be seen if he is kept the role on a permanent basis.

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has suggested that the Gers should make Alex McLeish their new manager.

McLeish was in charge of the Ibrox outfit from 2001 until 2006.

“This is a really important time for the Rangers board because they really need to get it right on the back of these two previous appointments,” The Daily Record quotes Rae as saying.

“They need to get back to basics by bringing in someone who knows the club and McInnes would be a safe pair of hands who would bring stability.

“But having worked with big Alex McLeish I know what he’d bring. When you look at his achievements in England – a top nine finish in the Premier League and also winning the League Cup with Birmingham – it speaks for itself.”
