Will Rangers fans see Daniel Candeias back to his best this season?

Rangers travel to Dundee on Saturday for a league fixture, before they travel to Spanish outfit Villarreal in the Europa League group stages.

Manager Steven Gerrard is going to need a big squad to cope with a busy fixture list, but there are a number of players that are still yet to hit top form under him.

Attacker Daniel Candeias was one of the best players at Ibrox last season and a consistent feature in the side, as he was directly involved in 21 goals across all competitions.

But the 30-year-old has looked a shadow of that player this year and has to be on thin ice with Gerrard.

The Portuguese wide man is without a goal or assist in nine games this season and is yet to cement his place in the starting XI, which leaves him in danger of being frozen out of the picture.

Candeias has been handed just three minutes of action so far in the league, but is in contention to feature against Dundee at the weekend.

The right-winger needs to be expressive in possession and show Gerrard that he can be a serious goal threat with his delivery into the box, something that can be top quality when he is on form.

Rangers are set to have summer signing Eros Grezda back from injury imminently and he will only crank up competition in wide areas, which is why Candeias’ next appearance for the Scottish giants is crucial.
