Rangers winger Daniel Candeias has shared his intention to stay at Ibrox.
Rangers winger Daniel Candeias has told MSN that he misses his home country of Portugal, but has no plans to return there in the foreseeable future.
Former Gers boss Pedro Caixinha swooped to land Candeias from Benfica last summer, reuniting with the winger having previously worked together with Portuguese outfit Nacional.
After loan spells with Nurnberg, Granada, Metz and Alanyaspor, Candeias is settling into life at Rangers having penned a two-year deal last summer, and he has been one of the few Portuguese imports to impress even after Caixinha’s sacking.
Candeias has featured prominently on the right flank for Rangers this season, recording five goals and eight assists, and has kept his place in the side under Graeme Murty – something which can’t be said for fellow Portuguese duo Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves.
Candeias has endured a nomadic career, having been associated with 13 clubs and played for 12 of them, but the 29-year-old now appears to be ready to stay with Rangers for the foreseeable future.
Speaking to MSN in Portugal, Candeias admitted that he does miss Portugal, but he does not intend to return to his home country any time soon given that he is still enjoying his time with Rangers.
Candeias added that there are only five teams he would sign for in Portugal anyway – Benfica, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Braga and Vitoria Guimarães – and doesn’t envisage leaving Rangers to join any of them.
“Of course I always miss my country, but at the moment I do not plan to return because I am in a different reality. In Portugal, only with the big three, with Braga or Vitoria Guimarães, they are the clubs where I think I could play. But it is not in my thoughts to return so soon,” he added.
