Daniel Arzani has been a regular fixture in Celtic’s reserve side lately, but his call-up saw Leo Mazis handed a chance.

With Celtic reserves regular Daniel Arzani away on international duty with Australia, Leo Mazis was handed a rare chance on the Hoops’ bench for their clash with Ross County on Tuesday.

Mazis’ arrival towards the start of this year has largely been overshadowed and somewhat forgotten about with the attacking midfielder yet to look like the kind of player that Brendan Rodgers will have in his thoughts for any imminent chances in the senior side.

And the arrival of countryman Arzani seemed to push Mazis slightly further down the pecking order, with the forward also struggling to force his way into Rodgers’ plans.

But with Arzani away with Tom Rogic with the Socceroos, Mazis was handed a chance in the Bhoys’ latest reserve game that he may not have had had the Manchester City-owned ace been around.

And he put a little bit of pressure on Arzani but making the most of his chance as Celtic claimed a 2-0 victory. It was Mazis who broke the deadlock, scoring just six minutes after coming onto the pitch as a substitute before Grant Savoury secured the win in stoppage-time.

Arzani has shown some glimpses of real quality while he has been playing in the reserves, so Mazis’ goal is perhaps not going change a lot regarding the summer signing’s role in the side while he is not deemed ready for first-team action.

But it is unquestionably a fantastic way for Mazis to mark his appearance and perhaps gives Celtic fans reason to not forget about the other Australian attacking midfielder on the club’s books.
