Manchester City-owned youngster Daniel Arzani has suggested to Fox Football Podcast why he did not make an impact at Celtic when Brendan Rodgers was in charge of the Hoops.

Celtic spell

Arzani, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, joined Celtic on a two-year loan deal from Premier League club City in the summer of 2018.

The 20-year-old was loaned to the Hoops immediately after he moved to City from Australian club Melbourne City.

The winger had injury problems during his first season at the Hoops, but even when he was fit and available, the Australia international could not feature regularly under Rodgers, who left his role as the Celtic manager in February 2019.

According to WhoScored, Arzani was able to play just once in the Scottish Premiership for the Hoops, and that too as a substitute.

The 20-year-old attacker has explained why he could not make an impression at the Hoops when Rodgers was the manager, and is hopeful of breaking into the first team under Neil Lennon.

Daniel Arzani comments

Arzani told Fox Football Podcast, as transcribed by Deadlinenews: “For me it (Rodgers’s departure) doesn’t change anything. It was a challenge for me to play under Brendan Rodgers at the beginning because his mindset was to have his attackers defend a lot.

“I think this gaffer (Neil Lennon) is a bit more lenient with that but either way it’s going to be hard and it’s not an easy team to break into, there are a lot of great players in that squad but I’ll give it my best shot.”
