Paris Saint-Germain defender Daniel Alves has suggested to The Telegraph that the club were complacent against Liverpool in the Champions League this season.

The 35-year-old former Barcelona and Juventus right-back, who is on the sidelines on the moment due to partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligament, has suggested that PSG did not realise who they were playing against when they took on Premier League side Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side got the better of PSG 3-2 at Anfield in Champions League Group C back in September.

The Reds will face the Ligue 1 giants in Paris towards the end of November, with both teams in the running to progress to the last-16 stage of Europe’s premier club competition.

Liverpool are second in the Champions League Group C at the moment with six points from four matches, level on points with leaders Napoli and a point ahead of third-placed PSG.

The Merseyside outfit are second in the Premier League table at the moment, while PSG are currently at the top of the Ligue 1 standings.

Alves told The Telegraph: “I don’t think PSG really understood what they were confronting when they faced Liverpool. It was like they didn’t realise who they were playing.”

When asked about complacency, Alves added: “They’re on their way to understanding it. If not, they will learn the cost.”
