Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has confirmed the club will not be offering a new contract to Spanish left-back Dani Pinillos.

Pinillos arrived at the City Ground two summers ago from Cordoba and became a fans’ favourite on Trentside.

The 24-year-old’s debut campaign was cut short by a serious knee injury, however, from which it took over a year to fully recover.

He returned to make 16 Championship appearances in the second half of the season, and scored a memorable stoppage time equaliser in March’s home draw with local rivals Derby County.

And it was a point that proved crucial in the end, with Forest staying up on goal difference at the expense of Blackburn Rovers.

Pinillos, however, will not be rewarded with a new deal, with Reds boss Mark Warburton telling BBC Radio Nottingham on Monday: “From the first day I was in the hot seat he’s been a perfect professional and worked very hard.

“I thank him for all of his efforts and wish him the very best for the future.”

Pinillos was quick to respond to the revelation, tweeting: “A pity to have to leave a club that has given me so much. I wish you all the best. Nottingham will always be my second home.

“YOU REDS”

And he was inundated with messages from Forest fans, as others chose respond separately to the news:
