The 25-year-old right-back won’t be available to face Tottenham Hotspur this week.
According to Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal will not be back in time to face Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
The Premier League side visit Spain in the Champions League next week for a huge game with the reigning European champions.
Tottenham have won both of their games in the competition so far and another would go a long way to seeing them move into the last-16 stage come February.
Carvajal has not trained with Real since September 30 after being diagnosed with pericarditis – a condition which affects the saclike membrane around the heart.
The viral condition which caused the issue has “cleared up” according to AS, but the Spanish outlet goes on to claim that he is likely to spend another two weeks on the sidelines as Real err on the side of caution due to the potentially serious consequences of rushing him back too soon.
If true then it could see Tottenham come up against 18-year-old right-back Achraf Hakimi in what will be his Champions League debut.
The Morocco international has only managed two competitive games for Real and it will be interesting to see how Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino exploits that weakness – if indeed it is a weakness.
He is at Real Madrid for a reason, after all, and he might well stand up to anything that the Lilywhites throw at him.
