Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the free agent.
According to Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window Podcast, Tottenham want to sign Brazilian free agent Dani Alves this summer.
And although the right-back has enjoyed a glittering career, Spurs trying to sign him would be an extremely strange move from the north London outfit.
Alves is now 36, and he is quite clearly well past his best.
Tottenham currently have Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier battling it out for the right-back spot. And whilst Trippier has been heavily linked with an exit from the club, Mauricio Pochettino still has Kyle Walker-Peters to call upon.
It would be really unlike the Argentine to bring in a player on the downward curve of his career on huge wages, rather than give a youngster like Walker-Peters the chance to shine.
Alves, who has won nine league championships, has been a superb performer throughout his career, but foreign imports always seem to struggle when they move to the Premier League. The Brazilian’s chances of succeeding in England would be slim, considering the fact that he is 36, and the intensity might just prove to be too much for him.
Even if Pochettino is not happy with his current right-back options, there are players out there who would arguably do a better job than Alves, including Thomas Meunier and Nelson Semedo, both of whom have been linked with moves to Tottenham this summer by the Telegraph and the Mirror respectively.
Spurs would be better off avoiding a move for Dani Alves. He’s had his time in the limelight, and the north London outfit could, and should, do better.
