Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Joao Felix to join Unai Emery’s Aston Villa this summer despite his struggles whilst on-loan at Chelsea last season.

The 23-year-old has returned back to Atletico Madrid ahead of the new La Liga season, but it’s highly likely that he heads for the exit door again.

The issue for Joao Felix is that there don’t happen to be many takers for his signature, with Agbonlahor claiming that Aston Villa is the ‘right team’ for him, as he told talkSPORT.

Back in January, the Midlands side did try to secure Felix’s talents, but instead, he opted to go to then-Champions League side, Chelsea.

Well, Emery is still showcasing interest in the player and would love him on board, but it seems as though he is keen to play for a team in the Champions League.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if this transfer saga rumbles on until the end of the window, with Agbonlahor backing him to move to his former club.

“Joao Felix, there is talk of him going to European Cup winners, Aston Villa,” laughed Agbonlahor. “He’s a good player, isn’t he?!

“Put him in the right team and he is dangerous, isn’t he?! So defensive football that they (Atletico Madrid) play, so put him in the right team, Aston Villa, of course, is the right team, then I am sure he will get double figures in goals and assists.”

Felix would thrive under Emery

The Portugal international is a Champions League quality player, so it’s understandable that he is trying to look for a team in the Champions League ahead of the new season.

But if those clubs don’t knock on his door, then he has to consider taking a step down. That’s why Villa should wait until the back end of the window before really pushing for his signature.

And if Villa manage to get him on board, then Felix would seriously cook under Emery.
