Clive Allen has said on BT Sport 2 (9:14pm, September 30, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno was harsh on Dane Scarlett against NS Mura at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night.

The former Tottenham star believes that Spurs head coach Nuno should not have substituted Scarlett in the second half.

Spurs beat NS Mura 5-1 at home in the Europa Conference League.

Scarlett started the match for the Premier League club, but the 17-year-old striker was taken off in the 59th minute.

Harry Kane came on in the place of the teenager and scored a hat-trick.

Former Spurs star Allen was on co-commentary duty for the match for BT Sports, and he said just before Nuno decided to take off Scarlett that it would be a harsh decision.

Allen said on BT Sport 2 (9:14pm, September 30, 2021): “I do hope that they do not sacrifice Dane Scarlett. That would be a little bit harsh on him.

“Yes, I know it’s all part of understanding and becoming aware of what’s happening at the highest level, for me it’s been in that midfield area that they have been sloppy.”

Decision vindicated

Scarlett did not have a great game and struggled up front, and it did not come as a surprise when Nuno decided to take off the teenager and bring on Kane.

What did Kane do?

The England international striker scored a hat-trick.

It will have been disappointing and frustrating for Scarlett not to be able to stay on the pitch for a bit longer, but this is competitive and professional football.

The Tottenham teenager will have learned, and perhaps next time he plays, he will do better.
