Dan James has told a Q&A session with fans in Australia – as per Leeds Live – that Leeds United kid Archie Gray can become one of the world’s best midfielders; explaining how Gray has surprised him.
Gray, 16, has featured in both of his club’s pre-season friendlies – starting in a 4-0 win over Blackpool, and then coming on as a substitute against Brisbane Roar on Thursday. Jesse Marsch is a big fan of the midfielder.
While he is yet to make his senior Leeds debut, Gray was an unused substitute on six occasions in the Premier League last season. He is already a regular in the club’s Under-23 side and a competitive debut is incoming.
James was asked about teenager Gray, and said that he has the potential to become one of the world’s best midfielders. He also explained that the player’s confidence had surprised him, for someone of his age.

“Archie is a great lad. The ability he’s got is something that he can take to be one of the best players in the Premier League if not the world. He’s still 16, absolutely crazy. What I’m surprised about the most is his confidence.
“Everything he does, he talks to everyone, he’s great lad, he works hard as well and he just wants to learn and that’s the best trait in a footballer and I’m sure he’ll go on to do great things,” James said.
James: Leeds kid Gray can become one of the world’s best midfielders
Leeds have a real gem on their hands. One that is boasting more potential than any of the talents to come through the Leeds ranks in recent years. Even more so, than Manchester City’s latest new signing Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips came into the side towards the latter of his teens, and struggled initially to have an impact. But Gray, who has Leeds connections through his family, is already showing he can improve Leeds at just 16. A huge talent.
