Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast Podcast, future Newcastle United Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth has named Romelu Lukaku as his best ever signing.
Ashworth has worked at both Brighton and West Brom as a Sporting Director, and he says that his best ever signing was Lukaku, who he brought to West Brom on loan in the 2012/13 season.
Lukaku has since established himself as a world superstar playing for the likes of Inter Milan, Manchester United and Chelsea.
What’s been said?
Ashworth named Lukaku as his best signing.
“I’m just thinking of all the texts I’m going to get from players who are going to listen to this. I would have to say Lukaku, obviously he’s gone on and had a fantastic career as a top player, so player wise it’s probably him. Value for money wise, Odemwingie, as a player on his day was outstanding, so I’d have to say Odemwingie as a permanent and Lukaku as a loan,” Ashworth said.

Won’t be a reunion
Ashworth is clearly a fan of Lukaku, and with the Belgian reportedly wanting out at Chelsea, there are bound to be rumours of a move to Newcastle due to the vast riches the Tyneside club now have.
However, sadly for the Magpies, this deal is a non-starter.
Indeed, according to CalcioMercato, Lukaku has already decided that he has no interest in joining Newcastle United, even though there haven’t been any concrete reports indicating that Newcastle do indeed want to bring him in.
Of course, Ashworth may well be tempted to revisit the idea of signing one of his favourite players, but this seems to be a move that simply won’t happen.
