Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth has told the club’s head coach Eddie Howe that Hugo Ekitike will join the Magpies from Rennes in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.
90min have reported that Newcastle have grown frustrated in the delays to secure the services of Ekitike from Rennes this summer.
Newcastle have agreed a £26 million fee with Rennes for the 19-year-old striker, who has also agreed personal terms with the Magpies, according to the report.
“The belief is that Ekitike’s agent is yet to pull the trigger on the move as payments over their services have yet to be ironed out, with the striker himself not understood to be responsible for any of the hold-up,” adds the report in 90min.
However, according to the report, Ashworth ‘is working on the deal and has told manager Eddie Howe that he is still confident of signing Ekitike’.

Newcastle should be optimistic about Hugo Ekitike deal
In our view, Newcastle United should be confident about signing Hugo Ekitike from Rennes in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old seems to be willing to move to St. James’ Park, and we think that it is only a matter of time before he becomes a Newcastle player.
Ekitike made 15 starts and nine substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Rennes last season.
The striker scored 10 goals and gave three assists in those matches.
