Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to discuss old footage of Virgil van Dijk swatting Erling Braut Håland aside with ease in December 2019.

Jurgen Klopp’s men travelled to Austria to face the 7-cap Norway international, as well as Takumi Minamino, in a Champions League group stage clash in 2019.

In the 12-second footage, we can see Håland racing clear of Liverpool’s backline, where he’s surging down on Alisson’s goal.

However, out of nowhere, Van Dijk gets his body between the 20-year-old and the ball, before playing it to Dejan Lovren.

Håland is sent crashing to the turf, in what is a timely reminder of just how good the Dutchman is following the Norwegian’s exploits last night.

Borussia Dortmund’s No.9 netted his 17th and 18th Champions League goals in the 3-2 win over Sevilla, as the knockout stages get underway.

Incredibly, the Leeds-born marksman has done so in just 13 Champions League appearances, which is simply ludicrous.

In all competitions this season, Håland has scored a stupendous 25 goals in just 24 games, while also assisting seven more.

He seems to be bulldozing all that stands in his way.

Well, apart from when Van Dijk confronted him in 2019, that is.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying after the old footage resurfaced online…
