Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Daily Mail revealed that Rhys Williams was left out of the England Under-21 squad last night due to a minor issue.

The Reds academy graduate missed the 5-0 win over Albania’s Under-21 side as a precaution following the small problem, which the Daily Mail describes as a stiff hip.

Aidy Boothroyd confirmed that he sent the 19-year-old back to Liverpool as it was in Williams’ ‘best interests’ ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leicester.

If the teenager is unavailable to Jurgen Klopp, the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss will have to put his thinking cap on.

The German is already without Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and has been relying on young Williams for most of the current campaign.

Having spent last season on loan at non-league Kidderminster Harriers, the centre-back is now key to Klopp having made five appearances in all competitions this season.

If William cannot face the Foxes, then it will most likely be Joel Matip and Nathaniel Phillips lining up against Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison.
