It’s been a pretty whirlwind loan for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira so far.
The South American left the Gunners to join Atletico Madrid for the 2020-21 campaign and it’s going pretty well.
Torreira opened his account for the Spanish giants in Saturday’s 3-1 win away to Osasuna, smashing home the third on 88 minutes – three minutes after coming on.
It wasn’t a good sign for the Arsenal-owned star that Diego Simeone – who took him off at half-time last week – didn’t include him in the first XI.
But the Uruguay international is clearly hungry to prove himself, evident by his goal, and that tenacity will stand him in good stead.
Torreira joined Arsenal for £27 million from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018 and had a brilliant first season in North London under Unai Emery.
And some fans of the Emirates Stadium club want to see him back next summer rather than stay in the Spanish capital for the long term.
Here’s how they reacted to his goal on Twitter:
It’s possible that Arsenal will get him back, too.
Despite signing Thomas Partey from Atletico this past summer, the Primera Liga side doesn’t have a compulsory purchase option for Torreira, meaning that if they don’t want to keep him then he’ll be heading back to London Colney.
