Liverpool have announced the shock departure of director of football Damien Comolli- Is it the right decision?
Liverpool’s owner John W Henry has announced that Damien Comolli is to leave the club in the summer in a surprise statement this morning.
Comolli has been blamed by Liverpool fans for a string of poor signings, including the combined £40 million spent on Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson.
He was also the man who spent £35 million on Andy Carroll, a decision most supporters would agree somebody needed to pay for with their job.
It seems a case of the owners taking decisive action, unhappy with a terrible run of performances which has seen Liverpool win just twice in 10 games.
But have they got the right man?
Comolli must accept his share of the blame, but is manager Kenny Dalglish just as culpable?
We ran a story earlier this week discussing how Dalglish is safer than he should be because of his legendary status at Anfield.
Is Comolli just the fall guy?
Does this mean Dalglish is safer than ever, given a reprieve, or should he be extremely worried, especially if Liverpool lose their FA Cup semi-final to Everton this weekend.
We still think he will be safe, but the ruthless nature of Comolli’s departure certainly puts fresh doubt on the situation.
