Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has struck an optimistic tone when discussing contract negotiations with wide receiver George Pickens.
George Pickens is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March after an impressive season with the Cowboys, and Jones’ latest comments suggest the organization is motivated to secure his long-term future.
While Cowboys fans have learned to be cautious during high-profile negotiations, Jones’ words signalled confidence in both Pickens as a player and his fit within the team.

Jerry Jones expresses optimism about George Pickens’ future
Jerry Jones said he has remained in regular contact with George Pickens and spoke positively about his impact and potential.
“I’m talking to George all the time by virtue of my excitement for him,” Jones said. “He’s better than, as far as what he contributed to our team, showing the potential that he could contribute.”
Jones also made it clear that he wants Pickens to remain with the Cowboys well beyond this offseason.
“I’m looking forward to getting things worked out so George can be a Cowboy a long time,” Jones said.
Jones downplays concerns and backs Pickens’ commitment
Jones addressed questions about Pickens’ professionalism by dismissing any suggestion that those issues would complicate negotiations.
“There’s nothing fragile about [Pickens] or his makeup,” Jones said. “It goes back to his commitment to how he loves football, his enjoyment being around his teammates and how he enjoys being coached.”
When asked about Pickens missing meetings earlier in the season, Jones brushed aside the concern.
“I’ve missed a few [meetings] myself,” Jones said. “Something came up.”
The comments painted a picture of a franchise owner eager to reach common ground, even as the Cowboys weigh options such as the franchise tag ahead of Pickens’ free agency.
