Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to listen to offers for Daley Blind. The Dutch international would be a smart signing for Southampton.
Hovering just above the relegation zone, Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino should definitely be looking to bolster the squad in the January transfer window.
With £75 million burning a hole in the pocket from Virgil van Dijk’s sale to Liverpool, it is crucial for the Saints to make necessary reinforcements this month.
Obviously, signing a defender should be at the top of Pellegrino’s priority list, and with that in mind they should be looking at Manchester United’s Daley Blind.
The 27-year-old joined Manchester United in 2014 and has made 88 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils. However, this season he has struggled for games, and has managed only 274 minutes of action in the Premier League.
Blind would have become a free agent this summer, but according to reports from the Telegraph, United have moved to secure the player’s future by extending the deal by a further 12 months.
The report claims that United will listen to offers for the Dutchman. If that is the case, Southampton should be able to snap the 27-year-old, who is on £70k-per-week as per the Daily Star, on a decent fee.
Blind can not only play as a central defender, but he is versatile enough to play as a left-back and also as a defensive midfielder.
Given his age, quality, and market value, a move for Blind could represent a smart signing.
