Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford won’t be declaring for the Republic of Ireland this month.

Leeds United were given a boost in regards to Patrick Bamford today.
The Leeds hitman was not included in Mick McCarthy’s Republic of Ireland squad for upcoming European Qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia this month.
McCarthy revealed earlier this week that the England-born striker intends to declare for the Boys in Green, and reiterated it during a press conference today [Irish Independent], but it won’t be happening until June at the earliest now.
This is good news for the Whites because Bamford is Marcelo Bielsa’s only fit striker and an injury on international duty might have destroyed United’s Premier League promotion bid.
The former Middlesbrough star, who scored twice last weekend, is bang in form for Leeds.
With Kemar Roofe sidelined with a knee injury, Bielsa desperately needs Bamford to stay fit for the run-in and being excluded from McCarthy’s plans certainly increases the likelyhood of that.
It’s been an injury-plagued first season for Bamford following a £7 million summer switch [The Daily Mail], but Leeds fans and Bielsa need not worry about him breaking down again whilst on international duty.
