Aston Villa fans are slating Lovre Kalinic on Twitter.

Love Kalinic looks on during the UEFA Nations League football match between Spain and Croatia at Martinez Valero Stadium in Elche on September 11, 2018

Quite a few Aston Villa fans on Twitter are ripping into new goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.

Dean Smith’s side were held to a 2-2 draw with Hull City at Villa Park today, with Tammy Abraham coming to the hosts’ rescue by scoring a 64th-minute equaliser.

Aston Villa weren’t hugely convincing in attack, but even less so at the other end.

Jarrod Bowen and Evandro Goebel fired Hull into a 2-0 lead in the first half and, well, Kalinic could have done better with both goals.

The Croatia goalkeeper, a £7 million signing this month [The Telegraph], was also caught off his line at one point, a touch fortunate in that respect.

That being said, fans of the West Midlands club praised him last week, despite Aston Villa losing 3-0, but some other supporters have questioned him this afternoon.

It doesn’t look good for Kalinic early on, having shipped eight goals in his first three games for Aston Villa.

But by the same token, that’s a very unfair reflection on him. In truth, it would’ve been far worse without him in all three games – especially Wigan last week – and when Villa’s defence improves, so will the perception of him.

Croatia's goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic takes part in a training session in Deauville, on June 10, 2016, ahead of the the Euro 2016 football tournament.
