According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United could take another run at signing Tammy Abraham in January.

Abraham was heavily linked with a loan move to Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer of 2017, though a move never materialised.

The 21-year-old hitman is tearing up the Championship with Aston Villa at the moment, scoring 12 goals in 16 league outings, but Chelsea have the option to recall him next month.

And if they do, The Northern Echo claims that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez and Crystal Palace will battle for his signature, with the latter willing to pay £10 million.

The report adds that Benitez is a ‘long-time admirer’ of Abraham who wouldn’t have a future in West London under Blues boss Maurizio Sarri.

The Echo also added that the St James’s Park club cannot sign another player on loan at the moment, indicating that the Spanish manager is interested in a permanent deal.

Alan Shearer claimed 12 months ago [The Chronicle] that Magpies owner Mike Ashley ‘pulled the plug’ on a deal for the young marksman, resulting in Benitez signing Joselu for £5 million.

He is contracted to the Premier League giants until 2022.
