Mauricio Pochettino has intimated that he might play Eric Dier instead of Toby Alderweireld in Tottenham Hotspur’s visit of Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to Football London that he could again snub Toby Alderweireld in tomorrow’s visit of Southampton.
Jan Vertonghen’s red card in the 4-2 defeat by Arsenal last time out means that the Belgian centre-back is ineligible.
The Tottenham manager courted criticism on Sunday by playing Juan Foyth ahead of the tried-and-tested Alderweireld, with the Argentine defender having a difficult game.
And asked by Football London whether he will recall the 29-year-old, Pochettino intimated that he could turn to Eric Dier instead.
When asked if Alderweireld will return, the Spurs boss said: “We’ll see. There are different options. Dier can play there. It’s about trying to be right and in the end win the game.
“That’s the most important but of course we come from a competitive week and we are going to face another competitive week.”
Tottenham fans won’t like Pochettino’s response one bit.
Bringing Alderweireld back in would appear to be a no-brainer, but it seems like the Argentine is genuinely considering Dier, a central midfielder by trade.
Southampton may have no manager at the moment, but they aren’t to be ruled out and the Saints still have enough options to trouble a back four which has Dier and Foyth in the middle of it.
