Luke Ayling has been one of Leeds United’s best players in recent years.

Speaking to LUTV, Danny Mills has singled out Leeds United right-back Luke Ayling for praise.

The 27-year-old has been a key part of Leeds’ early-season heroics, with Ayling playing every minute of the Whites’ six Championship games as Marcelo Bielsa’s side sit top of the league.

Ayling joined United for £700,000 from Bristol City [Bristol Post] in 2016 and has since proven a bargain, having established himself as one of the division’s best and most reliable defenders.

Mills knows a thing or two about playing right-back, having played there for eight different clubs – including Leeds – during his career.

And the 41-year-old is impressed by Ayling and goes so far as to claim that he could probably even play defensive midfield if it was asked of him.

He told LUTV: “I think he’s a great player. I’ve said the last two or three seasons, since he’s arrived, that he’s technically fabulous. I think he could even play in a holding midfield role.

“Technically he’s very, very good. He likes to get forward, as you have to as a modern-day full back.”

Keeping Ayling fit could go a long, long way in determining what kind of season Leeds have.

The Elland Road side lost him for five months last season due to injury, and it’s no coincidence that the team only managed four wins in that time.
