Charlie Miller is hoping that Celtic boss Neil Lennon repeats a certain tactical mistake in Sunday’s clash at Rangers.

Both sides renew hostilities for the first Old Firm derby of the new season this weekend.

Rangers go into the game as favourites but Celtic will be desperate to reaffirm their status as Kings of Scotland as the Hoops chase a ninth successive Premiership crown this season.

Lennon played midfielder Callum McGregor at left-back in their Champions League exit to Cluj earlier this month, resulting in criticism from Bhoys fans.

McGregor is one of Scotland’s finest midfielders, and Gers legend Miller wouldn’t mind seeing him at left-back again this weekend.

He told The Scottish Sun: “It’ll be a difficult game and midfield’s where it’s going to be won and lost. I hope Celtic play Callum McGregor at left-back, because he’s such a good football player. Taking him out of the midfield is a big loss to them.”

This might qualify as wishful thinking from Miller. Lennon will have surely learned his lesson against the Romanians.

The worrying thing is, Celtic still really only have Boli Bolingoli for that left-back role. Lennon is linked with signing another Kieran Tierney replacement, including Greg Taylor.

Even if the Northern Irishman signs one before Sunday, starting him at Rangers away would be throwing him in at the deep end.
