Graeme Souness has been singing the praises of Liverpool signing Diogo Jota.

The 23-year-old enhanced his reputation on Saturday by coming off the bench to score the winner for the Reds in a 2-1 win over West Ham United.

In doing so, Jota now has three goals in his first three Premier League games for Liverpool at Anfield, having also bagged in the Champions League in midweek.

The Premier League champions paid a hefty £45 million in signing him from Wolverhampton Wanderers this past summer.

But the early signs are so very encouraging for the Merseysiders.

And club legend Souness has described him as a ‘cute player’ who could seriously challenge Roberto Firmino from here on in.

He told Sky Sports: “He’s a cute player, he’s rapid and he has an eye for a goal. I would imagine that, pretty quickly, he will be challenging Firmino for a starting spot.

“He looks to have a fabulous attitude. He has a goal every three games – there’s not many of them around.”

You need only consider the fact that Firmino isn’t an automatic starter anymore to realise just how good Jota has been.

The Brazilian striker has been unbelievable for Liverpool down the years, but he appears to be losing his mojo and the more Jota scores, the more Jurgen Klopp is going to consider him for the first XI.
