‘Cut that out of his game’: David Seaman says one Liverpool player has cut out a bad habit

Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Alisson Becker and his improvement since joining Liverpool.

The Brazilian joined the Reds back in 2018, and while he was fantastic from day one, there were a couple of issues in his game that needed ironing out.

Indeed, to begin with, Alisson was rather eccentric with the ball at his feet, he would do stepovers, flicks and tricks, and inevitably, that cost the Reds on occasion – perhaps most famously against Leicester City in 2018.

However, Seaman has noted that Alisson has dropped that trait and now he plays with confidence with the ball at his feet.

Seaman spoke about Alisson and his first impressions of the goalie.

“When Alisson first came, he got caught out a few times, he was trying to do flicks, tricks and everything, but he’s cut that out of his game, he’s a goalkeeper with confidence, he plays with the ball at his feet with confidence – just like Aaron (Ramsdale) does,” Seaman said.

Matured

Alisson was already well on his way to becoming a world-class keeper before he joined Liverpool, but he’s truly matured at Anfield.

Beforehand, he could be rather erratic and make the wrong decisions from time to time, but now, his judgement is spot on every single time and it’s hard to remember the last time he made a mistake.

Yes, he still has the odd trick up his sleeve, but those moments are few and far between, and he only pulls out the showboating when it is necessary these days.

Alisson is almost the perfect modern goalkeeper.
