Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Raphael Varane.
According to Diario Madridista, the Real Madrid stalwart is very much on the Reds’ star.
Jurgen Klopp needs central defenders this summer and if they do wind up getting Varane, it’ll be an absolutely superb piece of business for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, we’re talking about a player with a £433 million release clause.
But AS reported on Saturday that Real would cash in on him this summer if they can’t tie him down to a new deal and negotiations are at an impasse right now.
And with his contract expiring in 18 months, Liverpool could pick him up for staggeringly less than his release clause.
But we’re also talking about a four-time Champions League winner and aged only 27, is only coming into the peak of his powers now.
If the reigning Premier League champions can pick up a player of this quality and experience, it’s going to be a bargain because the Spanish giants can’t demand huge money when you consider he’d only have 12 months to go on his contract by the time this summer rolls around.
Liverpool’s director of football Michael Edwards has overseen his fair share of unbelievable deals on Merseyside – and this would be right up there for a number of reasons.
