Garth Crooks has raved about Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder and reported Liverpool target Ruben Neves on BBC Sport.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion forward has included Neves in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport for the midfielder’s performance against Everton at the weekend.

The 23-year-old was superb in the middle of the park, as Nuno’s side got the better of the Toffees 3-0 at the Molineux Stadium in the Premier League this past Sunday.

Sport reported last month that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Neves – as well as his Wolves teammate Adama Traore – this summer.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “The ball from Ruben Neves for Diogo Jota to score Wolves third goal and put the game way beyond a poor Everton was quite brilliant.

“Wolves did well after the restart but their form then suffered from some poor performances. However they seem to have recovered and there is more good news.

“Neves not only looks like he’s got his form back but was also a cut above the rest. This lad should really be playing Champions League football.”

Stats

Against Everton, Neves took two shots which were not on target, had a pass accuracy of 89.1%, took 106 touches, played three key passes, and made five tackles, three interceptions and one clearance, according to WhoScored.

The 23-year-old has made 32 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Wanderers so far this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Liverpool move this transfer?

Neves – who cost Wolves £16 million in transfer fees, as reported by The Daily Mail – is a very good midfielder who would make Liverpool a better team in the middle of the park.

A move to the Reds could be very tempting for the youngster, but Wolves are an ambitious club, and if they clinch a Champions League place for next season, then they may not be willing to sell any of their best players even for a lot of money.
