Curtis Good is way down the pecking order at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle United are in desperate need of a spark from somewhere in their squad after losing six of their last seven Premier League matches, as Rafa Benitez watches on helpless from the dugout.
Sunday’s loss to Leicester City would have come as the toughest of all after conceding an 86th minute own goal through Ayoze Perez to lose an enthralling encounter 3-2 at St. James’ Park.
Benitez will be looking within the depths of his squad for someone to step up to the plate, take the side by the scruff of the neck and push Newcastle away from the relegation zone.
So it will come as hugely frustrating to one-time Australia international Curtis Good with the likelihood being that Benitez would overlook the 24-year-old defender, as he remains ostracised at St. James’ Park.
The defender is way down the pecking order on Tyneside, behind the likes of captain Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Ciaran Clark and Chancel Mbemba.
Now with just a matter of months remaining on his contract, Good must realise that his future does not lie in Newcastle’s reserve team and a move away from the north east is the only way to realise his potential.
Good, who is reportedly earning £12,000 a week according to the Daily Star, has made just two senior appearances in five years with the Toon after joining the club in 2012 from Australian outfit Melbourne Heart – now known as Melbourne City.
A move into the Football League, into Europe or even back home to Australia is likely to be of preference for Good, who has just 41 senior appearances to his name with Newcastle, Melbourne, Dundee United and Bradford City.
With the chances of first-team action almost zero for Good, he must look to leave in the upcoming January transfer window or even wait until the summer and leave at the end of his contract to finally earn first-team football.
