Tottenham Hotspur suffered a damaging defeat at Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Sky Sports pundit Curtis Davies has worryingly asked whether the Tottenham players are ‘flat’ following their 2-0 defeat against Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Centre-back Davies also warned Mauricio Pochettino’s side about their up and coming games against rivals Arsenal and their Champions League second-leg encounter against Borussia Dortmund.
Over the weekend, Spurs were beaten at Burnley as they recorded another loss at Stamford Bridge, which raises questions about their form going into the north London derby on Saturday.
Speaking to Soccer Special on Sky Sports News on (27/02/2019 at 10:20 pm), former Premier League player, Davies provided a damning assessment of Tottenham’s performance at Stamford Bridge.
“Spurs in the final third looked quite flat,” Davies told Soccer Special. “They had a lot of the ball and that’s simply because Chelsea took the lead early on in the second half. But they never really looked like causing any problems.
“The whole talk comes back to Spurs and not signing any players in both windows. Are the players flat? They obviously had World Cups. You have had Son come back from the Asia Cup.
“I think Arsenal go four points behind them tonight, they need to make sure they hold onto that third place. Also, to get a bit of momentum for their Champions League game. I know they have a 3-0 lead, but they will want to go there with strong form and make sure they do it well in the derby at the weekend.”
Since the turn of the year, Pochettino was without a number of his star players, including the injured duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli, while Heung-min Son spent a few weeks away on international.
For large parts, they were without at least two of those players, but that didn’t stop them from winning game after game, including their 3-0 win against Dortmund in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League encounter.
However, since the return of their star man, Kane, they have suffered back-to-back defeats and have, as a result, ended their title hopes.
More lacklustre performances from Spurs then they could be losing the bragging rights against Arsenal and potentially finding themselves out of Europe.
