In an interview with the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, Hull City defender Curtis Davies gave some insight into what Mike Phelan has changed at the KCOM Stadium compared to Steve Bruce’s highly successful tenure in charge of the club.
The centre-back, who is statistically the best in Europe so far this season, talked to Brazil on issues such as social media, Wayne Rooney’s best position and the threat of Liverpool’s attack. The Tigers head to Liverpool tomorrow afternoon in the Premier League.
Hull City face a tough task tomorrow away at Liverpool
Davies told the former Scotland international, “Mick [Phelan’s] done well. Obviously he’s brought a different sort of element to us in the fact that we actually are going into every game, regardless of who we’re playing against, trying to win the game.”
“He’s putting that mentality into us. We know obviously it’s going to be difficult against the likes of the Arsenal’s, Liverpool’s and Chelsea’s, but we go with that mentality, so if we take a point, it’s good.”
The former Aston Villa defender’s comments will be music to many Hull City fans ears, as Bruce’s cautious approach to many games was one of the major criticisms of his reign, despite him becoming the most successful manager in Hull City’s history.
Phelan hasn’t yet become manager of Hull City
Davies now, like almost everyone involved with Hull City, will just be hoping the club can finally come to some sort of arrangement with Mike Phelan to tie the former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson down as the Tigers permanent manager.
Negotiations between Hull City and Mike Phelan are said to be ongoing, and have been for some time now. Phelan told reporters today that he’d had a very productive conversation with the Allams last week, but that he hadn’t heard anything from them since then.
Phelan, Davies and the rest of the Hull City team travel to Anfield tomorrow to take on in-form Liverpool. The Tigers are currently 12th in the Premier League table, and face a real challenge against Jurgen Klopp’s men, who have scored 11 goals in 5 games this season.
