The Hull City defender is surprised that Crystal Palace parted company with Dwight Gayle.

Newcastle United's Dwight Gayle scores their first goal.

Hull City defender Curtis Davies said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, September 2, 2016) that Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle will be the top scorer in the Championship this season.

Davies also expressed his surprise that Crystal Palace let Gayle leave in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old striker joined Championship club Newcastle from Premier League outfit Palace for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £10 million.

“I think he will be the top scorer in that league because he is an unbelievable player, good finisher and I am surprised that Palace actually let him go,” said Davies about Gayle on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, September 2, 2016).

Gayle was on the books of Palace from the summer of 2013 until the end of the 2015-16 season.

The 25-year-old striker arrived at Selhurst Park with a good reputation, but he failed to make a massive impact in the Premier League.

The former Peterborough United man was probably not given enough chances to show what he is capable of when he was at Palace.

Newcastle, though, have signed a striker who can be a huge success in the Championship.

Gayle has scored four goals and created two chances in four Championship appearances for the Magpies so far this season.
