Spurs star has more goals than Suarez or Hazard since his return

With 8 goals in 10 games, Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor is currently the most on-form striker in the Premier League.

Once upon a time, it wasn’t such an outrageous thing to suggest Emmanuel Adebayor was one of the best strikers in playing in England.

And though he has flirted with form at a variety of clubs since that season, 2007-08 with Arsenal, more often than not such a claim would be met with ridicule by whoever was listening.

But following his double against Newcastle United in Tottenham’s emphatic 4-0 win, the Togo international is on a run of form no other Premier League player can match.

His first goal at St James’ park was an opportunistic pounce on Nabil Bentaleb’s spilled cross, while his second was a volley into the ground that then bounced over Tim Krul.

These goals followed Adebayor’s outstanding finish against Everton that won the game against their top four rivals.

Amazingly, since returning to the Spurs first team in Tim Sherwood’s first Premier League match as boss, the visit to Southampton on December 22nd, no player has scored more goals than the striker.

As you can see in the table below, courtesy of Opta, Adebayor comes above some illustrious names including the vaunted Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard and Daniel Sturridge.

Though the Spurs star has played more matches than several on the list, therefore possessing a weaker goals per game record, there is no denying his influence in Tottenham’s strong spell of form, which has seen them second only to Chelsea in terms of form since that same date.

Clearly Adebayor’s return to form is closely tied to Tottenham’s own, as well as Tim Sherwood’s impressive start, with the home defeat to Manchester City the only blip on his Premier League copybook.

And if the Spurs number 10 continues his outstanding form, he will end up with a goal haul every inch as impressive as in 2008.

Then Arsenal finished third. Who’d bet against Adebayor firing Tottenham past his old club, and into the same position by the end of the season.
