Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has reiterated his intention of keeping Wilfried Zaha.
Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha in action with Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has been quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying that he is ‘very confident’ of keeping winger Wilfried Zaha at the club.
Palace’s outstanding recent form continued on Monday evening as they beat Arsenal 3-0 at Selhurst Park, thanks to goals from Andros Townsend, Yohan Cabaye and Luka Milivojevic.
It’s now five wins in the last six games for Palace, and four clean sheets in that run as Sam Allardyce’s defence begins to impress – but the focus remains on star winger Wilfried Zaha.
The Ivorian picked up two assists against Arsenal, and was a constant menace to Gunners left back Nacho Monreal, as his pace, power and trickery were just too much for the Spaniard to handle at times.
Monday’s performance continues Zaha’s exceptional season, as he’s now notched six goals and nine assists in 28 Premier League appearances, with interest in the 24-year-old’s signature unsurprisingly mounting.
The Mirror recently reported that Tottenham Hotspur – who failed with a bid for Zaha last summer – are ‘confident’ of securing a summer deal for the winger, with manager Mauricio Pochettino allegedly keen to finally land his man.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish in the stands
However, Palace won’t give up their star man without a fight, and Eagles chairman Steve Parish has now been quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying that he is very confident of keeping Zaha this summer, even believing that he could sign a new contract at Selhurst Park.
Parish fired an additional warning to Spurs and any other interested clubs by stating that he is really hard to contact during the summer transfer window, and won’t even answer calls from ‘certain’ clubs – an ominous message given the reputation of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
“Wilf is focused on the end of the season and keeping us in the division,” said Parish. “That’s what he’s keen to do. We’re keen to do that. We’ll sit down and talk at the end of the season and I’m very confident we can keep him here. It’s really hard to get hold of me in the summer. My phone doesn’t ring when certain clubs ring me,” he added.
