The striker has been woeful for the Eagles, and few will be sad to see him leave Selhurst Park.

Following reports from Sky Sports that Brighton and Hove Albion were interested in signing Fraizer Campbell from hated rivals Crystal Palace, many Palace fans have expressed delight at such links – and with good reason.

The 29-year-old striker signed for the Eagles in 2014 by then boss Tony Pulis, but has scored just eight goals in 49 appearances over a three year spell, and is out of contract at the end of the season.

It’s highly unlikely that Palace will be offering Campbell a new deal, allowing him to depart on a free transfer, but if this is the sort of calibre of player Brighton are looking to bring in, then fans of the Seagulls have every right to be worried.

The last time Campbell was prolific was in the 2012/13 season when he signed for Cardiff City in the Championship, with the one time England international scoring seven goals in 12 league matches as the Bluebirds secured promotion to the Premier League.

However, Campbell had spent half of that season with Sunderland in the Premier League, and scored once in 12 outings before his switch to a lower division, and it could work out now that a Palace flop will be joining their rivals.

While it’s possible that players who don’t work at one club can work at another, Campbell has proved throughout his Premier League career that he’s not cut out to be a decent goalscorer at that level, with just 18 goals in 149 appearances at time of writing.

Following their survival, expect a lot more joy from Palace fans if this move actually happens.
