Yohan Cabaye made a total of eight interceptions for Crystal Palace against Tottenham Hotspur.
Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye equalled this season’s Premier League best for the most interceptions made in one game during his side’s match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Palace may have lost the fixture to Spurs, but Cabaye still gave his defence good protection – by blocking Tottenham passes eight times in the contest.
It highlights a feature in the Frenchman’s game which often goes unheralded. Cabaye is generally praised for his work in possession, but he showed intelligence off the ball at White Hart Lane.
| Position | Team | Match | Interception | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yohan Cabaye | MF | C. Palace | Tottenham vs C. Palace | 8 | 1 | 90 |
| Craig Cathcart | DF | Watford | Everton vs Watford | 8 | 1 | 90 |
| Yohan Cabaye | MF | C. Palace | C. Palace vs Arsenal | 7 | 1 | 90 |
| N’Golo Kanté | MF | Leicester | Stoke vs Leicester | 7 | 1 | 86 |
| Laurent Koscielny | DF | Arsenal | Arsenal vs Stoke | 7 | 1 | 90 |
| Winston Reid | DF | West Ham | West Ham vs Bournemouth | 7 | 1 | 90 |
| Micah Richards | DF | Aston Villa | Bournemouth vs Aston Villa | 7 | 1 | 90 |
Only Watford’s Craig Catchcart has previously made eight interceptions in a match, meaning Cabaye is the first midfielder to reach that total this season.
It continues the former PSG star’s excellent opening to his career at Selhurst Park, where he has made an immediate impression.
Other than his eight interceptions, Cabaye also hit the post against Spurs, but he was powerless to resist as Heung-Min Son netted the winner for the hosts.
Despite the defeat, Palace have still made a solid start to the new term, and are currently comfortably stationed in the top half of the Premier League table.
