Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek is relishing playing regularly for Crystal Palace this season, but there is an overriding feeling that the prospect could make even more of an impact for his temporary side if he was deployed in a different position.
Loftus-Cheek, who made his England senior debut earlier this year, has made 16 Premier League appearances this season, scoring once and providing three assists, while he has linked play extremely well by playing some slick passes.
The 21-year-old has mainly been deployed on the left wing in recent weeks, while he also spent time playing on the right flank in recent seasons.
However, the feeling persists that if Loftus-Cheek was deployed as an attacking midfielder then he could really thrive for Roy Hodgson’s side as Crystal Palace look to avoid suffering relegation to the Championship.
If Loftus-Cheek did play as an attacking midfielder, Hodgson may have to drop Christian Benteke, but that is a risk that is certainly worth taking.
In such a position Loftus-Cheek would be able to have much more of an overall influence on games as when he is out wide he can frequently become isolated and find himself on the periphery of proceedings.
The starlet deserves to be at the hub of the Palace side and it would be interesting to see how he fares if such a tactical switch is made.
